Abstract
Thiophene-2-acetic-acid is prepd. from 2-ocetyl thiophene by oxidation with nitric acid to thiophene-2-glyoxylic-acid. Thiophene-2-carboxylic-acid produced as a by product is removed by extraction with an organic solvent. Thiophene-2-glyoxylic-acid remaining in the reaction mix is reduced to thiophene-2-acetic acid by hydrazinic hydrazine-hydrate or hydrazine-sulphate
