Abstract
Oppfinnelsen vedrører en multipolar reduksjonscelle for produksjon av et lettmetall ved elektrolyse. Cellen har en anode, en katode og minst en strømledende multi-polar elektrode lagt imellom anoden og katoden. Cellen har en smeltet elektrolytt som inneholder et metallsalt som skal bli elektrolysert, holdt innenfor cellen, og fortrinnsvis har midler for å opprettholde en øvre overflate av elektrolytten ved et forutbestemt nivå innenfor cellen. Nivået blir fortrinnsvis opprettholdt over den øvre enden av de(n) multipolare(e) elektrode(ne), i det minste ved bruk av cellen. Den multipolare elektroden har en elektrisk isolerende flate ved dens øvre ende som minimerer eller eliminerer snikestrøm mellom anoden og katoden når cellen driftes. Oppfinnelsen vedrører også fremgangsmåten av å minimere eller eliminere snikestrømmen.
