Abstract

The winch has a control system to maintain a desired tension in the rope via winch drums, tender peaks in the rope being compensated by regulating the output of the drive motor. A controllable relay is connected between a control element of a control device in the control system and a movable component acted on by the drums and their drive shafts. The relay is normally held in an operating position in which a desired tension is maintained in the rope after freeing a desired length. An increase in tension effects a corresponding movement of the movable component to start the relay to increase the motor output.
