894,333. Towing devices. DRACONE DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. June 12, 1958 [March 13, 1957], No. 8274/57. Class 78 (5). A tug winch pays out a cable by means of which the tug tows a flexible barge and the length (or rate of change of length) of the cable is measured to control the engine speed of the tug whereby the length of cable payed out is kept within predetermined limits. The cable may be nylon or may transmit electric power or liquid or gas. Its tension may also be controlled. Additionally, the cable may pass over a carriage positioned at the stern of the tug and moving along arcuate rails whereby snatch is avoided.
