Abstract

A composite pipe is formed by applying to a tube of fibrous material produced by wrapping a fibrous web round an arbor and bonding the overlapping zones with an adhesive or a welded seam, a fluid mixt. forming a filtration membrane, after the tube of fibrous material has been stretched to increase its dia.. The membrane forming fluid is applied as the tube reaches its largest dia. After stretching and the application of the filtration membrane, the tube is allowed to return to its original diameter. The possibility of excessive loads being imposed upon the seam of seams of the fibrous tube due to variations in the diameter of the support pipe, during high pressure filtration or reversed osmosis, is prevented.
