Abstract

A suction pipe is connected to a chamber to be exhausted above cylinders containing liquid (1), which have underneath them a mechanism (3) alternately raising and lowering the pressure of the liquid. The pipe is connected via an inlet valve to the lower part of the suction chamber, and each of the cylinders has a valve (9) through which liquid is discharged when pressure is high and air admitted when it is low, from the pipe. Means are included for circulating the liquid and returning that discharged, so as to give a stable intake and delivery. The cylinders also have internal cooling apparatus to liquefy the incoming air.
