Abstract
Articles of synthetic material are produced by extruding a thermoplastic mass to which a lubricant is added, with continuous control of the speed of gelation. This is maintained uniformly constant by the metered addition of a lubricant which is thoroughly mixed into the feed before it reaches the plasticising zone. The amt. of lubricant delivered is determined by the measurement of the energy consumption of the extruder worm and/or the temp. of the prod. at the nozzle outlet. The speed of gelation can be kept constant without long intervals elapsing between the detection of a falling off in speed and the rectification of the situation. The gelation speed is held constant to great advantage by regulating the input of lubricant in parallel with the temp. of the extruded material.
