Abstract

The coupling bush (3) is provided with one or more univoid projections (4) and external screw thread, and is capable of receiving the pipe end (2). The socket (1a) has internal thread into which the bush can be screwed. At least one of these components is provided with sealing means such that, when the pipe is contained in the bush, the axially inward movement of the bush in the socket causes the projections to grip the outer pipe wall. The bush may be wholly or partially slotted in axial direction. One of the components may have a stop to limit the axial movement of the bush in the socket such that further rotation causes the bush to contract radially inward.
