Abstract
Prepn. of weather resistant wood glue by (a) condensing 1 mole of a mixt. of 0.15-1 mole melamine and 0.85-0 mole urea, with 1.5-2.5 moles HCHO, in aq. soln. (to reach a compatibility with water of 0.5-10), (b) reacting the condensate with =0.5 mole formaldehyde, =0.5 moles melamine, and 0.05-0.2 moles phenol at pH 7.5-10 and temp. 45-100 degrees C until the viscosity (at 20 degrees C for 63% solids content) reaches 300-2000 cps, as in parent patent, except that pure urea and less HCHO (1.4-1.8 mole per mole urea) is used.
