Oeze vinding kan met name toegepast worden op plaatsen - zoals bijvoorbeeld bij een MRI-scan - waar iedere vorm van metalen of (elektrische) draden een nadelige of desastreuze invloed heeft op het resultaat. De optische (fibre-optics) meetinrichting kan op een afstand van 10 meter omgezet worden in een elektrisch te verwerken 8 bits 10 graycode waarde welke vervolgens in een microprocessor tot een reële afstandswaarde verwerkt wordt en kan worden aangewend om de aansturing van het object te realiseren.
