Abstract
Un dispositivo portatil de almacenamiento de datos (10), incluye un dispositivo de acoplamiento (1) de un bus conductor de serie universal (USB), y un dispositivo de interfaz (2), esta acoplado al dispositivo de acoplamiento USB (1). El dispositivo portatil de almacenamiento de datos (10), tambien incluye un dispositivo de control de memoria (3), y un dispositivo de memoria no volatil de estado solido (4). El dispositivo de control de memoria (3), esta acoplado entre el dispositivo de interfaz (2), y el dispositivo de memoria instantanea (4), para controlar el flujo de datos desde el dispositivo de memoria instantanea (4), al dispositivo de acoplamiento USB (1).
Description
DISPOSITIVO PORTÁTIL PARA ALMACENAMIENTO DE DATOS
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA INVENCIÓN La invención se refiere a un dispositivo portátil 5 de almacenamiento de datos y en particular a un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos para una computadora. • Los dispositivos de almacenamiento de datos convencionales caen en dos categorías. La primera
10 categoría son dispositivos electrónicos de memoria de estado sólido, tales como memoria que únicamente lee (ROM) y memoria de acceso aleatorio (RAM). Estos
# dispositivos de memoria, están generalmente montados dentro de la computadora, no se pretende que sean
15 retirables o portátiles, de modo que pudieran usarse en diferentes computadoras, por ejemplo para permitir la transferencia de datos de una computadora a otra computadora . El segundo tipo de dispositivos son 20 dispositivos de almacenamiento de datos basándose en la superficie en los cuales los datos se almacenan típicamente sobre la superficie de un disco o cinta. Ejemplos de dispositivos de almacenamientos superficiales son discos magnéticos y CD ROM. Tales 25 dispositivos de almacenamiento de datos requieren un
mecanismo de lectura mecánico que se ins%-ale o se acople a la computadora para permitir que los datos en el dispositivo de almacenamiento sean leídos por la computadora . Además, tales dispositivos de memoria están limitados al área superficial del dispositivo de almacenamiento y la combinación del dispositivo de almacenamiento y el mecanismo de lectura para la lectura de datos desde el dispositivo de almacenamiento es generalmente voluminoso y/o delicado, debido a las partes movibles que se requieren dentro del mecanismo de lectura y/o el dispositivo de almacenamiento. De acuerdo con la presente invención se provee un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos que comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento para acoplar a un conducto de serie de computadora un dispositivo de interfaz acoplado al dispositivo de acoplamiento, un dispositivo de control de memoria y un dispositivo de memoria no volátil de estado sólido; el dispositivo de control de memoria esta acoplado entre el dispositivo de interfaz y el dispositivo de memoria para controlar el flujo de datos desde el dispositivo de memoria al dispositivo de acoplamiento.
háAm.á?iáaiíátáM Una ventaja de la invención, es que se provee un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos que comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento con un dispositivo de interfaz. El dispositivo de control de memoria y un dispositivo de memoria no volátil de estado sólido, con lo cual se hace posible proveer un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos que puede acoplarse a una computadora que tenga una puerta a un conducto en serie que no incluya partes movibles o no requiera un mecanismo de lectura mecánico para leer los datos desde el dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos . Preferentemente el dispositivo de memoria no volátil de estado sólido, puede ser un dispositivo de memoria de lectura/escritura tal como un dispositivo de memoria instantánea. Preferentemente, donde el dispositivo de memoria es un dispositivo de memoria de lectura/escritura, el dispositivo de control de memoria controla el flujo de datos a y desde el dispositivo de memoria. Típicamente el dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos comprende un conmutador operado manualmente movible entre una primera posición en la cual se permite la escritura de datos al dispositivo de
memoria y una segunda posición en la cual se impide la escritura de datos al dispositivo de memoria. Preferentemente, el dispositivo de control de memoria puede incluir una memoria únicamente de lectura que almacene un programa para controlarla operación del dispositivo de control de memoria. Preferentemente el dispositivo de control de memoria es un microcontrolador. Típicamente, el dispositivo de interfaz comprende, un impulsor de conductor de bus en serie universal (USB) para convertir datos entre un formato
USB y un formato PC, y el dispositivo de acoplamiento comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento USB. Alternativamente, el dispositivo de interfaz comprende un impulsor para protocolo IEEE 1394 (Firewire) y el dispositivo de acoplamiento comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento Firewire. Un ejemplo de un dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos de acuerdo con la invención, se describirá ahora en relación a los dibujos anexos, en los cuales La figura 1 es un diagrama de bloque esquemático de un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos, La figura 2 es un diagrama de flujo que muestra el establecimiento inicial del dispositivo de

La figura 1 muestra un dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos 10 que incluye, una clavija de contacto USB 1, que esta acoplada a un dispositivo de interfaz USB 2. El dispositivo de interfaz USB 2 esta acoplado a un microcontrolador 3, que esta acoplado a una memoria instantánea 4. El microcontrolador 3 incluye una memoria de únicamente lectura (ROM) 5 que almacena un programa para controlar la operación del microcontrolador 3. Las operaciones realizadas por el microcontroador 3, incluye comparar las contraseñas introducidas por un usuario, junto con una contraseña correspondiente almacenada con la memoria instantánea 4 para determinar si el usuario esta autorizado a tener acceso a los contenidos de la memoria instantánea 4. El programa almacenando en el ROM 5, también controla el flujo de datos a y desde la

memoria instantánea 4 y también puede detectar si la computadora a la cual el dispositivo de memoria 1 esta acoplado tiene programas de software instalados que correspondan a contraseñas almacenadas en la memoria instantánea 4. El microcontrolador 3 puede automáticamente tomar contraseñas desde el software instalado para comparara con contraseñas almacenadas de memoria instantánea para verificar que un usuario de la computadora esta autorizado a tener acceso y a hacer funcionar el software. Además, el programa almacenado en el ROM 5, también permite poner una contraseña en la memoria instantánea por un suministrador de software que corresponda a la contraseña contenida en un software suministrado a un usuario. Típicamente, la contraseña puede corresponder al número de serie del software. La memoria instantánea 4 esta típicamente dividida en un cierto numero de secciones o zonas diferentes. Típicamente la memoria instantánea esta dividida en dos zonas y cada zona tiene una única contraseña. Si el dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos 10 esta provisto con software en paquete, el numero de serie del software puede ponerse en una zona para que sea la contraseña que permita al usuario tener acceso y usar el software. puede usarse típicamente para almacenar datos del usuario, puede tener una contraseña separada que es puesta por el usuario. Típicamente, las contraseñas están almacenadas en un lugar seguro de la memoria instantánea, en una forma encriptada. La encriptaci?n, descifrado, control del flujo de datos y el protocolo USB todos se manejan por el microcontrolador 3. El microcont roador 3 también incluye una memoria de acceso aleatorio RAM 6 que es un área de almacenamiento temporal que permite el funcionamiento del microcontrolador 3. Además un interruptor o controlador manual 7 esta acoplado entre la memoria instantánea 4 y el microcontrolador 3. El interruptor manual 7 es movible entre una primera posición en la cual un usuario puede escribir datos en la memoria instantánea 4, y una segunda posición en la cual se impide que los datos sean escritos en la memoria instantánea . El dispositivo 10 también incluye un zócalo USB 8 que esta acoplado directamente a la clavija USB 1 y permite que otros dispositivo USB sean acoplados a la USB por medio del dispositivo USB. Por ejemplo, si un usuario desea aumentar el espacio de memoria, una clavija USB 1 de un segundo dispositivo de memoria 10 puede conectarse al zócalo OSB 8.
La figura 2 es un diagrama de flujo que muestra el procedimiento de poner el dispositivo 10 para un suministrador de software cuando el suministrador de software pretende suministrar al dispositivo como un dispositivo de autenticación para el software. Primeramente, la clavija 10 del dispositivo 10 se introduce en 20 a un zócalo USB de una computadora. Después de que el dispositivo 10 ha sido conectado al zócalo USB en la computadora, se establece una comunicación 21 entre la computadora y el dispositivo 10. El suministrador de software tiene un software de instalación previamente instalado en la computadora que se hace funcionar por el operador. Desde el software previamente instalado, el operador selecciona la contraseña que ha de ponerse en la instalación 22, en respuesta a la cual el software preinstalado requiere que el operador introduzca una contraseña o numero de serie correspondiente al software con el cual el dispositivo 10 debe proveerse. La contraseña o numero de serie se encripta 26 y se almacena 27 en la memoria instantánea 4. La figura 3 es un diagrama de flujo que muestra el establecimiento inicial de una contraseña para la zona 2, de la memoria instantánea 4, por un usuario final. El dispositivo 10 se suministra
típicamente con software impulsor que es cargado por el usuario en la computadora antes de poner en uso el dispositivo. Para poner en uso la contraseña para la zona 2, el usuario conecta en 20 el dispositivo 10 a un puerto USB en la computadora y se establece la comunicación 21 entre la computadora y el dispositivo 10. El usuario entonces hace funcionar el software impulsor y el software impulsor introduce un modo de instalación de la contraseña 23 para la zona 2. El usuario introduce en 28, una contraseña que quieren usar, para impedir un acceso sin autorización a la zona 2 de la memoria instantánea 4. La contraseña que se ha introducido se encripta 29 y se almacena 30 en la memoria instantánea 4. Después de que el usuario final ha realizado la puesta de la contraseña inicial, con el procedimiento descrito anteriormente y mostrado en la figura 3, cuando el usuario conecte en 20 el dispositivo 10 a un puerto USB en una computadora, la computadora establecerá una comunicación 21 con el dispositivo 10 y primeramente verifica 33 una característica de estado de instalación almacenada en la memoria instantánea 4 (ver figura 4) y la característica de estado es "Y", el dispositivo 10 en 34 da una característica "OK" a la computadora.
El microprocesador 3 instruye entonces a la computadora para editar una solicitud 35 al usuario, para seleccionar la zona a la que quiere entrar. Si la característica de estado es "N" el dispositivo no envía una característica "OK" a la computadora y va recta al paso 35. En respuesta a la solicitud 35 para la selección de zona, el usuario selecciona en 36, ya sea la zona 1 o la zona 2. Si la zona 1 se selecciona, el dispositivo 10 decide que el dispositivo desea instalar software en la computadora que esta almacenada en la memoria instantánea 4 y solicita en 37 la contraseña adecuada para la confirmación de que el usuario esta autorizado para instalar el software. El microcontrolador 3 recibe la contraseña introducida por el usuario, lleva a la zona 1 la contraseña almacenada en la memoria instantánea 4, descrita la contraseña de la zona 1 y la compara con la contraseña introducida por el usuario para la autenticación en 38 de si el usuario esta autorizado para instalar el software, si las contraseñas no coinciden, el dispositivo 10 le urge a la computadora para solicitar el 37 que el usuario introduzca de nuevo la contraseña. Si la contraseña introducida por el usuario coincide con la contraseña almacenada en la memoria
instantánea 4, el micro controlador 3, inicia en 39, la instalación de software desde la memoria instantánea 4 a la computadora. Con el objeto de instalar software la computadora envía en 40, un comando léase/escriba en formato USB al micro controlador 3, para los datos; el micro controlador 3, toma los datos requeridos de la memoria instantánea 4, y envía en 41, los datos al impulsor 2. El impulsor 2, convierte en 42, los datos al formato PC, y envía los datos a la computadora a través de la clavija 1 USB. El micro controlador 3, entonces verifica en 43, si la instalación software está completa. Si la operación no está completa la operación retorna a la etapa 40. Si la instalación del software está completa la característica de estado almacenada en la memoria instantánea se cambia a "Y" y el dispositivo 10, puede entonces retirarse en 45, del zócalo USB en la computadora. Si un usuario selecciona la zona 2, el micro controlador 3, envía un comando al computadora para solicitar en 46, que el usuario entre la contraseña para la zona 2. Cuando el usuario introduce la contraseña, la computadora envía la contraseña al micro controlador 3. El micro controlador 3, toma la contraseña para la zona 2, de la memoria instantánea
4, descifra en 47, la contraseña y la compara con la contraseña introducida por el usuario. Si la contraseña introducida por el usuario es incorrecta, la operación regresa al paso 46, y la computadora solicita en 46 del usuario que vuelva a introducir la contraseña . Si la contraseña introducida por el usuario está correcta, el usuario tiene acceso a la zona 2, de la memoria instantánea 4, para leer datos desde la memoria instantánea 4, y escribir datos en la memoria instantánea 4. Sin embargo, los datos únicamente pueden ser escritos para la memoria instantánea 4, si el conmutador manual 7, está en la posición que permita que se escriban datos a la memoria instantánea 4. Con el objeto de leer o escribir datos desde o para la memoria instantánea 4, se envía en 48, un comando de leer o escribir por la computadora en formato USB, al micro controlador 3. En respuesta al comando de leer o escribir el micro controlador 3, ya sea que toma datos en 49, de la memoria instantánea 4, y los envía al impulsor 2, para conversión en 50, al formato PC y luego a la salida a la computadora o recibe datos del impulsor para escribirlos en la memoria instantánea 4. Entonces el micro controlador 3, determina en
51, si la operación de lectura o escritura es completa, si la operación no es completa regresa a la etapa 48. Si la operación es completa, la operación termina en 52. 5 El dispositivo 10, descrito anteriormente es para acoplarse a un conductor de serie universal (USB) . Sin embargo, la clavija 1, y el dispositivo de interfaz 2, y un zócalo 8, pueden usarse con cualquier conductor de serie de computadora adecuado. Por

20 operado mecánicamente. Además, el dispositivo 10, no tiene partes movibles. Esto permite que el dispositivo de almacenamiento de datos 10, sea más compacto que los dispositivos de almacenamiento de datos portátiles convencionales.
Claims (8)
- REIVINDICACIONES 1.- Un dispositivo portátil de almacenamiento de datos que comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento para acoplarase a un conductor en serie de computadora, un dispositivo de interfaz acoplado al dispositivo de acoplamiento, un dispositivo de control de memoria y un dispositivo de memoria no volátil de estado sólido; el dispositivo de control de memoria está acoplado entre el dispositivo de interfaz y el dispositivo de memoria para controlar el flujo de datos desde el dispositivo de memoria al dispositivo de acoplamiento.

- 5.- Un dispositivo de acuerdo con las i???,tuLÍ??t?*t,yí.a^li^^?a^i?%^^h^a^^to-^-»*"-'^-*^"^--• reivindicaciones 2-4, que comprende un conmutador operado manualmente movible entre una primera posición con la cual se permite escribir datos al dispositivo de memoria y una segunda posición en la cual se impide escribir datos al dispositivo de memoria.
- 6. - Un dispositivo de acuerdo a cualquiera de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en donde el dispositivo de control de memoria comprende un microcontrolador.
- 7. - Un dispositivo de acuerdo a cualquiera de las reivindicaciones precedente, en donde el dispositivo de acoplamiento comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento de conductor de serie universal y el dispositivo de interfaz comprende un impulsor USB.
- 8.- Un dispositivo de acuerdo a cualquiera de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en donde el dispositivo de acoplamiento comprende un dispositivo de acoplamiento de protocolo IEEE 1394 (Firewire), y el dispositivo de interfaz es un impulsor de protocolo Fireware. ttá??.¡k?*áy&áaá?Íy¿yi
