Abstract
Se proporcionan una composición y un método para tereftalato de polietileno (PET) reforzado con grafeno. Se agregan nanoplaquetas de grafeno que comprenden un área superficial inicial adecuada a un solvente para producir PET. En algunas modalidades, el solvente comprende etilenglicol. El solvente y las nanoplaquetas de grafeno se someten a sonicación para dispersar las nanoplaquetas en el solvente. El solvente y las nanoplaquetas de grafeno se centrifugan para eliminar los aglomerados de nanoplaquetas en el solvente. Una solución de sobrenadante de nanoplaquetas de grafeno dispersas y solvente se decanta y después se utiliza para la polimerización in situ del PET reforzado con grafeno que comprende una matriz continua de PET con una fase de refuerzo de grafeno disperso. Los refuerzos de grafeno comprenden un número mínimo de capas de láminas de carbono monoatómicas bidimensionales. En algunas modalidades, el número de capas varía entre 1 capa y 7 capas. El PET reforzado con grafeno comprende preferentemente una concentración de nanoplaquetas de grafeno que es menor a sustancialmente una fracción en peso del 2% del PET reforzado con grafeno.
