Claims (5)
- 서로 대향배열되어 그 사이에 액정층이 협지된 한쌍의 전극기판(11), (12)을 구비하고, 상기 액정층은 정의 유전이방성을 가지는 네마틱액정을 포함함과 동시에 선광성 물질이 첨가되고, 상기 액정층의 두께 d(㎛)와 상기 네마틱액정의 광학이방성 Δn의 곱 Δn·d은 0.7㎛ 내지 1.2㎛ 범위내에 있고, 상기 각 전극기판(11), (12)은 전극기판(11), (12)에 인접한 액정분자(17)가 소정방향으로 배열되는 표면구조를 가지고, 상기 액정층은 그 두께방향을 따라서 160°내지 360°범위내에서 트위스트된 나선구조를 가지고, 상기 액정층 양측의 상기 전극기판(11), (12)에 인접배열된 한쌍의 편광기(15), (16)를 구비하고, 상기 각 편광기(15), (16)은 이 편광기(15), (16)에 인접한 전극기판(11), (12)의 액정분자(17) 배열방향에 대하여 소정의 각 만큼 경사진 편광축(8), (9)을 가진 트위스티드네마틱형 액정표시소자에 있어서, 상기 편광기(15), (16)중 적어도 하나는 편광기(15), (16)의 편광축(8), (9)과 전극기판(11), (12)의 액정분자(17) 배열방향간에 불일치로 인해 야기되는 복굴절 효과에 의한 발색을 상보보상하는 분광특성을 가지도록 하므로써 소자로 부터의 표시광을 대략 무채색화 하는 색편광기로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 트위스티드네마틱형 액정표시소자.
- 제1항에 있어서, 전극기판(11), (12)의 액정분자(17) 배열방향에 대한 편광축(8), (9)의 상기 소정의 경사각은 20°내지 70°범위내에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 트위스티드네막틱형 액정표시소자.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 색편광기의 분광특성은 제9도의 커브(A)와 커브(B)간에 구획된 영역에 해당하도록 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 트위스티드네마틱형 액정표시소자.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 편광기중의 하나에 인접배열된 반사판(20)을 포함하고, 한 편광기는 상기 색편광기로 구성되는 한편, 다른 편광기는 뉴우트럴 편광기로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 트위스티드네마틱형 액정표시소자.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 색편광기는 자홍색편광기인 것을 특징으로 하는 트위스티드네막틱형 액정표시소자.
