도 3a 및 도 3b는 각각 종래의 평면정렬 스위칭 방식 액정표시장치의 응답특성에 대한 계산결과 및 실험결과를 도시한 도면.
도 4는 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 평면정렬 스위칭 방식 액정표시장치의 단면도.
도 5a 및 5b는 각각 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 평면정렬 스위칭 방식 액정표시장치의 오프 상태 및 온 상태의 광학적 배열형태를 도시한 도면.

Claims (7)
- 서로 마주보며 이격된 제1 및 제2기판과;
상기 제1 및 제2기판 사이에 형성되고, 제1위상지연 및 제1광축을 갖는 액정층과;
상기 제1기판 외면에 형성되는 제1편광판과;
상기 제2기판 외면에 형성되고, 상기 제1위상지연과 동일한 제2위상지연과 상기 제1광축과 수직인 제2광축을 갖는 위상차 필름과;
상기 위상차 필름 상부에 형성되는 제2편광판
을 포함하고,
상기 제1광축은 화소전압 인가에 의하여 회전각(σ)만큼 회전하고, 상기 회전각은 하기의 식
(λ는 파장, ΔndA_plate는 상기 제2위상지연, ΔndLC_effective는 상기 제1위상지연의 실효값)
에 따라 결정되는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 제1 및 제2위상지연은 4분의 1파장(λ/4) 이상인 액정표시장치.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,
상기 제1 및 제2위상지연은 반파장(λ/2) 미만인 액정표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,
상기 제1편광판의 제1투과축과 상기 제2편광판의 제2투과축은 서로 수직인 액정표시장치.
- 제 4 항에 있어서,
상기 제1 및 제2기판에 평행한 면을 서로 수직인 x축 및 y축으로 정의하고, 상기 제1 및 제2기판에 수직한 방향을 상기 x축 및 y축에 수직한 z축으로 정의할 경우,
상기 제1투과축은 상기 x축에 평행하고, 상기 제1광축은 상기 x축에 대하여 45˚의 각도를 이루고, 상기 제2광축은 상기 x축에 대하여 135˚의 각도를 이루고, 상기 제2투과축은 상기 y축에 평행한 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 위상차 필름은 A 플레이트인 액정표시장치.
