Abstract
Description
본 발명은 전술한 바와 같이, LCD장치의 투과율 개선을 위한 전계를 향상시키기 위하여, 도 3 및 도 4에 도시한 바와 같이, 상판(30Y)에 하판(30X)의 공통전극(30)과 등전위인 보조전극(도 4, 35)을 포함시키고 있다. 이 보조전극(35)은 박막의 판형으로서 공통전극(30)과 등전위를 형성하는 특징이 있으며 따라서 화소전극(32)과 하나의 전계를 형성한다. 이러한 전계는 후술한 공통전극(30)과 화소전극(32)간의 전계와 다른 새로운 전계로서 액정층(30Z)의 액정을, 보다 구체적으로는 액정층의 전반에 영향을 주지만 상판과 가깝네 위치하는 액정을 보다 빠르고 효과적으로 구도시킨다, 그리고 보조전극(도 4, 35)의 재료로는 ITO(Indium Thin Oxide)를 사용한다.
하판(30X)은 크게 공통전극(30)과, 공통전극(30)에 전원을 인가하기 위한 공통전극라인(30c), 다중슬릿 형태의 화소전극(32), 화소전극(32)을 구동하기 위한 TFT(34), TFT(34)의 채널(34g)에 전원을 인가하기 위한 게이트버스라인(36), TFT(34)의 소스(34s)에 전원을 인가하기 위한 데이터버스라인(38)을 포함하고 있다. 아울러, TFT(34)의 다른 한 극 드레인(34d)이 화소전극(32)에 연결되어 본 실시예의 LCD장치를 구동한다.
Claims (7)
- 화소들이 다수 배열되어 화상을 표시하는 액정표시장치에 있어서,액정물질의 동작을 제어하기 위한 제1전극;상기 제1전극 상에 절연물질층을 개재시켜 상기 액정물질의 두께보다 크지 아니한 간격을 이루는 다중 슬릿 형태로 중첩되게 형성되어 상기 제1전극과의 전위 차이에 의해 수평 전계를 발생하여 상기 액정물질의 동작을 수평 방향으로 제어하는 제2전극;상기 제2전극의 동작을 제어하기 위한 소정 두께의 제어소자;상기 제1전극 및 제2전극을 포함하며 상기 액정물질을 통과한 빛의 진행을 조절하는 하판;상기 하판 상부에 위치하여 상기 액정물질의 소정축이 상기 하판과 대체적으로 직각을 이루도록 배열되는 액정층;상기 제1전극과 등전위가 인가되어 상기 제2전극과 수직 전계를 발생하여 상기 액정 물질의 동작을 수직 방향으로 제어하는 보조전극; 및,상기 액정층의 상부에 위치하여 상기 보조전극을 포함하고 상기 액정층의 동작을 보조하도록 러빙되어 상기 액정표시장치로 입사된 빛의 진행을 제어하는 상판을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 수직배향-프린지전계스위칭 모드 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 상판은 상기 제 2 전극의 길이 방향과 0도 ∼ 45도의 각도로 러빙된 것을 특징으로 하는 수직배향-프린지전계스위칭 모드 액정표시장치.

- 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층은 70 내지 100㎛의 카이랄 피치를 갖도록 1%의 도펀트가 첨가된 액정으로 이루어진 수직배향-프린지전계스위칭 모드 액정표시장치.

- 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 상판 또는 하판 각각이나, 또는, 상판 및 하판 모두는 시야각을 향상시키기 위한 위상보상필림을 하나 이상 더 포함하는 수직배향-프린지전계스위칭 모드 액정표시장치.
