- 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,제1 기판, 제2 기판, 및 상기 제1 기판과 상기 제2 기판 사이에 구비되는 수직 배향형 액정층; 및상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층 쪽 측면 상에 구비되는 제1 전극과 상기 액정층을 개재하여 상기 제1 전극에 대향하도록 상기 제2 기판 상에 구비되는 제2 전극에 의해 각각 규정되는 복수의 화소 영역을 포함하고,상기 제1 기판은 상기 복수의 화소 영역 각각에 제1 배향 규제 구조를 포함하며, 상기 제1 배향 규제 구조는 상기 액정층 내에 복수의 액정 도메인을 형성하도록 배향 규제력을 발휘하고, 전압 인가시 상기 각 액정 도메인은 방사상 경사 배향을 나타내고,상기 제2 기판은 상기 복수의 액정 도메인의 적어도 하나에 대응하는 영역에 제2 배향 규제 구조를 포함하고, 상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 적어도 전압 인가시 적어도 하나의 상기 액정 도메인내의 액정 분자를 방사상 경사 배향으로 배향시키도록 하기 위한 배향 규제력을 발휘하며,상기 제1 전극은 복수의 단위 솔리드부(unit solid portion)를 포함하고, 상기 제1 배향 규제 구조는 상기 복수의 단위 솔리드부를 포함하여, 상기 제1 전극과 상기 제2 전극 사이에 전압이 인가되는 경우, 상기 복수의 단위 솔리드부 각각의 주변부를 따라 경사 전계가 생성됨으로써, 상기 복수의 단위 솔리드부에 각각 대응하는 영역에 상기 복수의 액정 도메인을 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 복수의 단위 솔리드부 각각의 형태는 회전 대칭성을 가지는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 복수의 단위 솔리드부 각각은 모서리가 예각인 형상을 갖는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 복수의 액정 도메인 각각에 대응하는 영역에 구비되는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 전압 미인가시에도 상기 액정 분자를 방사상 경사 배향으로 배향시키기 위한 배향 규제력을 발휘하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제8항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 제2 기판으로부터 상기 액정층으로 돌출하는 돌출부인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제9항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 두께는 상기 제2 기판으로부터 상기 액정층으로 돌출하는 상기 돌출부에 의해 정의되는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제10항에 있어서,상기 돌출부는 상기 제2 기판의 기판면에 대해 90°미만의 각도를 갖는 측면을 포함하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제8항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층 쪽 측면 상에 구비되는 수평 배향력을 갖는 표면을 포함하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 전압 인가시에만 상기 액정 분자를 방사상 경사 배향으로 배향시키기 위한 배향 규제력을 발휘하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제13항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 제2 전극 내에 구비된 개구부를 포함하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,제1 기판, 제2 기판, 및 상기 제1 기판과 상기 제2 기판 사이에 구비되는 수직 배향형 액정층; 및상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층 쪽 측면 상에 구비되는 제1 전극과 상기 액정층을 개재하여 상기 제1 전극에 대향하도록 상기 제2 기판 상에 구비되는 제2 전극에 의해 각각 규정되는 복수의 화소 영역을 포함하고,상기 제1 기판은 상기 복수의 화소 영역 각각에 제1 배향 규제 구조를 포함하며, 상기 제1 배향 규제 구조는 상기 액정층 내에 복수의 액정 도메인을 형성하도록 배향 규제력을 발휘하고, 전압 인가시 상기 각 액정 도메인은 방사상 경사 배향을 나타내고,상기 제2 기판은 상기 복수의 액정 도메인의 적어도 하나에 대응하는 영역에 제2 배향 규제 구조를 포함하고, 상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 적어도 전압 인가시 적어도 하나의 상기 액정 도메인내의 액정 분자를 방사상 경사 배향으로 배향시키도록 하기 위한 배향 규제력을 발휘하며,상기 제1 전극은 적어도 하나의 개구부 및 솔리드부를 포함하고,상기 제1 배향 규제 구조는 상기 제1 전극의 상기 적어도 하나의 개구부 및 상기 솔리드부를 포함하여, 상기 제1 전극과 상기 제2 전극 사이에 전압이 인가되는 경우, 상기 제1 전극의 상기 적어도 하나의 개구부의 에지부에서 경사 전계가 생성됨으로써, 상기 적어도 하나의 개구부 및 상기 솔리드부에 각각 대응하는 영역 내에 상기 복수의 액정 도메인을 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제15항에 있어서,상기 제1 기판은 상기 제1 전극의 상기 액정층 반대쪽 측면 상에 구비되는 유전체층을 더 포함하고, 제3 전극은 상기 유전체층을 개재하여 상기 제1 전극의 상기 적어도 하나의 개구부의 적어도 일부를 대향하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제15항에 있어서,상기 적어도 하나의 개구부는 실질적으로 동일한 형태 및 실질적으로 동일한 크기를 갖는 복수의 개구부를 포함하고, 상기 복수의 개구부 중 적어도 일부는 회전 대칭성을 갖도록 배치된 적어도 하나의 단위 격자를 형성하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제17항에 있어서,상기 복수의 개구부의 상기 적어도 일부 각각의 형태는 회전 대칭성을 갖는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제15항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 복수의 액정 도메인의 각각에 대응하는 영역 내에 구비되는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제15항에 있어서,상기 제2 배향 규제 구조는 상기 제1 전극의 상기 솔리드부에 대응하는 영역 내에 형성되는 상기 복수의 액정 도메인의 하나 이상에 대응하는 영역 내에만 구비되는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제15항에 있어서,제2 배향 규제 구조는 전압 미인가시에도 상기 액정 분자를 방사상 경사 배향으로 배향시키기 위한 배향 규제력을 발휘하는 액정 표시 장치.
