- 발광체, 직시형 표시 화면, 상기 발광체로부터의 조명광을 직시형 표시 화면으로 인도하는 도광체, 조명광을 선택적으로 제1 및 제2의 2개의 편광 성분으로 분리하고 제2편광성분을 투과시키며 제2편광 성분을 반사시키는 편광 분리 소자, 반사된 제2편광성분을 제1편광성분으로 변환하고 편광 분리 소자로 되돌리는 변환·반사 부재, 및 상기 편광 분리 소자를 투과한 제1편광성분의 진동 방향을 변환시켜서 상기 조명광을 얻는 편광 변환 수단을 구비하고, 상기 편광 분리 소자는 상기 도광체의 표시 장치측에 배치된 시트 형상의 편광 비임 스플리터이며, 상기 변환·반사 부재는 상기 도광체의 상기 직시형(直視型) 표시 화면의 반대측에 배치된 반사판 및 상기 도광체와 상기 반사판 사이에 배치되는 편광 변환 소자를 구비하며, 상기 편광 변환 소자는 1/4 파장 필름인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시 장치.
- 발광체, 직시형 표시 화면, 상기 발광체로부터의 조명광을 직시형 표시 화면으로 인도하는 도광체, 조명광을 선택적으로 제1 및 제2의 2개의 편광 성분으로 분리하고 제1편광성분을 투과시키며 제2편광성분을 반사시키는 편광분리소자, 반사된 제2편광성분을 제1편광성분으로 변환하고 편광 분리 소자로 되돌리는 변환·반사 부재, 및 상기 편광 분리 소자를 투과한 제1편광성분의 진동 방향을 변환시켜서 상기 조명광을 얻는 편광 변환 수단을 구비하고, 상기 편광 분리 소자는 상기 발광체와 상기 도광체 사이에 배치된 주상(柱狀) 편광 비임 스플러터이며, 상기 변환·반사 부재는 상기 발광체와 상기 주상 편광 비임 스플리터 사이에 배치된 편광 변환 소자 및 상기 주상 편광 비임 스플리터의 광 경로와 평행면에 형성된 반사경을 구비하며, 상기 편광 변환 소자는 1/4 파장 필름인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시 장치.
- 발광체, 직시형 표시 화면, 상기 발광체로부터의 조명광을 직시현 표시 화면으로 인도하는 도광체, 조명광을 선택적으로 제1 및 제2의 2개의 편광 성분으로 분리하고 제1편광성분을 투과시키며 제2편광성분을 반사시키는 편광 분리 소자, 반사된 제2편광성분을 제1편광성분으로 변환하고 편광 분리 소자로 되돌리는 변환·반사 부재, 및 상기 편광 분리 소자를 투과한 제1편광성분의 진동 방향을 변환시켜서 상기 조명광을 얻는 편광 변환 수단을 구비하고, 상기 변환·반사 부재는 상기 도광체의 상기 표시 장치와는 반대측 면에 형성된, 입사측에 경사면을 갖는 요철면이며, 상기 요철면의 입사측 경사면은 입사광의 입사각이 다음 식 B= tan-1(n2/n1) [식에서 n1은 입사측 매질 굴절률, n2는 출사측 매질 굴절률임]으로 표현되는 브루우스터의 각 또는 그 근방이 되는 경사 각도를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시 장치.

- 발광체, 직시형 표시 화면, 상기 발광체로부터의 빛을 선택적으로 제1 및 제2의 2개의 편광 성분으로 분리하고 제1편광성분을 투과시키며 제2편광성분을 반사시키는 콜레스테릭 액정 시트로 이루어지는 편광 분리 소자, 및 반사된 제2편광 성분을 제1편광성분으로 변환해서 편광 분리 소자로 되돌리는 반사 부재를 구비하고, 상기 발광체는 3개의 2주 발광 스펙트럼을 갖는 3파장 형광관인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시 장치.
