Abstract
PURPOSE:To suppress defoliation and slipping-off of a surface layer effectively, increase the mechanical strength, and maintain high battery capacity for a long period of time by using powder of hydrogen absorption alloy covered with a metal dispersion layer on the surface of the powder of hydrogen absorption alloy as main component. CONSTITUTION:La, Ni5 having hydrogen absorption ability are crushed by mechanical means and turned into fine powder, which is covered with indium metal by a plating method using sulfamine acid bath, followed by heating under vacuum to disperse the indium in the surface of the alloy in a thickness of several tens to several hundreds Angstrom , to turn it into alloy. To this fine powder polytetrafluoroethylene powder is added to LaNi5 powder, and it is mixed uniformly using a mixer, followed by press molding to accomplish a hydrogen absorption electrode. Besides indium, Zn, Cd, Hg, Tl may be used as metal to be dispersed.
