Abstract
PURPOSE:To simultaneously provide sufficient high-temp. weld crack sensitivity resistance and workability together with excellent oxidation resistance and high-temp. strength by specifying the ratios of Mn and S as well as Nb and (C+N) in the components contained in a steel for a manifold having a specific compsn. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the steel used for the manifold of an automobile engine is constituted of <=0.03% Cr, 0.1-0.8% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn, <=0.005% S, 17.0-20.0% Cr, 0.2-0.6% Nb, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. The relation in which the ratio of Mn%/S% attains >=200 and the ratio of Nb%/(%C+%N) attains >=10 is satisfied in this component range. Further, <=1.0% Mo and >=1 kinds of 0.01-0.2% Al and 0.2-1.0% Cu are incorporated therein. Since this steel has the excellent workability and weldability, the manifold molding to replace the conventional castings is obtd.
