Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a rail which is resistant to a severe condition of a high speed operation under a high axial load, and also is satisfactory in weldability, by hot-rolling an Fe alloy containing C, Si, Mn and Cr, and to which Nb, etc. or Mo, etc. have been added as necessary, and after that, cooling it. CONSTITUTION:A rail having composition consisting of 0.60-0.85% C, 0.1-0.8% Si, 0.7-1.5%Mn, 0.2-0.8%Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is hot-rolled, and after that, it is cooled by accelerating a cooling speed between 850-500 deg.C by 1-4 deg.C from an austenite area, by which it is possible to obtain a high-strength rail which scarcely generates abrasion and fatigue damage, and satisfactory in weldability. Said basic composition is capable of further containing >= 1 kind among 0.01-0.10%Nb, 0.01-0.10%V and 0.01-0.10%Ti, or >= 1 kind among 0.02-0.10%Mo, 0.02-0.5%Cu and 0.02-0.5%Ni.
