Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost, size and thickness of the EL driving circuit by dividing Y electrodes into two parts on the panel side through a capacitor. CONSTITUTION: For the EL driving circuit, X electrodes 1 corresponding to a half of conventional X electrodes are used and Y electrodes 2 are divided into two parts on the panel side through the capacitor 4. Thereby the number of driver ICs to be used for a dot matrix EL display panel is reduced to a half of a conventional number on the X electrode 1 side and the number of driver ICs on the Y electrode 2 side is not changed, so that the total number of driver ICs is reduced. Consequently an inexpensive, compact and slim type thin film EL element is obtained. Since the pitch and width of the X electrode 1 on its leading part are increased, the patterning of an electrode leading part is easily executed and also the connection of the electrode leading parts to a printed board is easily executed.
