Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a video discriminating circuit whose response is rapid and highly accurate by providing a first and a second counters which respectively count video detecting pulses, and undetected video pulses, and discriminating the presence/absence of an input video signal corresponding to outputs from the respective counters. CONSTITUTION:A discrimination element showing that an input signal is a video signal and that showing that the input signal is not a video signal which is an inverse phenomenon of the former video signal, are separately counted by two counters 15, 16. In case thirty or more H-missing and noise are included in a period as short as twenty Hs of a video signal, the counter 16 decides that the signal is not a video signal. This guarantees that a normal video signal is erroneously decided as an other can hardly occurs. Inversely, as long as the counter 15 does not count twenty or more noise erroneously as normal horizontal synchronizing signals in as short as thirth-H period of the signal, an erroneous decision on noise as video signals does not occur. Therefore, an erroneous decision on the presence of a video input despite the absence of it is unlikely to happen.
