Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a gate valve and reduce the process of maintenance by mounting an annular sealing member which can be driven by an actuator to project from the periphery of a through-hole in a housing. CONSTITUTION:There are both annular sealing members 11A and 11B which are, respectively, driven by hydraulic actuators 6A and 6B to project in the forward and rear direction of a valve member 2 from the periphery of through- hole 3A and 3B in a housing 1. When the valve member 2 is moved, the sealing members 11A and 11B are separated therefrom and when the valve member 2 stops moving, the sealing members 1A and 11B are brought into close contact with the valve member 2. Therefore, during the opening and closing operation of a valve, the sealing members 11A and 11B can be prevented from wear and damage due to biting of foreign matter.
