Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten decarburizing time and also to control the amount of oxidation of valuable metals such as Cr, by adding while agitating molten steel by blowing gases into the molten steel, a powdered solid oxygen source together with the above gases through tuyeres or an immersion lance. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel in a furnace is agitated by blowing an O2 gas and an Ar gas into the molten steel through tuyeres in the bottom, and heat is supplied to the molten steel by means of a burner in the upper part of the furnace. At this time, a powdered solid oxygen source, such as chromite sand and mill scale, is added together with the gases for agitation through the tuyeres or a lance into the molten steel. By this method, decarburizing time can be shortened and the additive quantity of a reducing agent for re-reducing valuable metals can be reduced.
