Abstract
PURPOSE:To acquire an optimum laser beam for laser processing immediately and to realize precision processing by detecting part of laser beam output obtained by laser medium excitation and by performing comparison operation of the detected value and the laser output value commanded beforehand to control the excitation strength of the laser medium. CONSTITUTION:When transmitted laser beam LB 2 is diffracted by a diffraction grating 101, only n-order diffracted beam LBD+n that is adequately extinguished is injected to a thermopile 113 through a filter 111 and lens system 112, and the other diffracted beam LBD, LBD+ or -1, LBD+ or -2,... are absorbed in the inner wall of (sphere of) a black-body 103. Then the output of n-order diffracted beam LBD+n is detected by the thermopile 113 and converted to electric signal SDT to obtain control signal SC by comparison operation of the output signal SI commanded externally by use of a subtracter 11. By controlling the output current of an excitation power supply 8 based on the control signal SC, the excitation strength of carbon dioxide is controlled to keep the output of output laser beam LB 1 constant.
