Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a steel having excellent low-temperature toughness over the entire region in a weld heat-affected zone by subjecting a continuously cast slab of an extremely low S high tensile steel added with a slight amt. of Ca to reheating at a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The steel contg., by weight %, 0.01-0.15% C, <=0.5% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn, <=0.025% P, <=0.0025 S, <=0.004% Al, 0.001-0.005% Ca, 0.0010-0.004% N, and 0.0010-0.0050% O, satisfying -0.010 <=[Ca]-2.5[O]-l.25[S]<=0 and consisting of the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities is continuously cast. The resulted slab is reheated at <=1250 deg.C and thereafter, the steel is produced. >=1 Kinds among 0.005-0.060% Nb, 0.005-0.025% Ti, 0.005-0.025% Zr, 0.005-0.060% V, 0.05-2.0% Ni, 0.05-1.0% Cu, 0.05-1.0% Cr, 0.05-0.40% Mo, 0.0003-0.0020% B, and 0.005-0.05% REM are incorporated at need into the compsn. of this steel. This steel has excellent hydrogen induced cracking resistance.
