Abstract

PURPOSE:To change optionally the installation state of a display device in accordance with its installation conditions and display contents and detect and display automatically installation conditions by providing a fixing mechanism, a discriminating device, a detecting circuit, etc. CONSTITUTION:A discriminating device 21 has a switch detecting circuit where a switch 50 attached to the CRT side is closed automatically by a fixing mechanism 22 when a display device 10 is laid horizontally and the switch 50 is opened when the display device 10 is laid vertically. Low-level data is transmitted to a signal line 30 when the switch 50 is closed, and high-level data is transmitted there when the switch 50 is opened. This data is stored as discrimination data in a memory. The device 10 reads out discrimination data from the memory at a display start time and examines it in the detecting circuit and selects an area, where patterns for horizontal or vertical display are set, in accordance with the discrimination result. Thus, circuits 21 and 22, etc. are provided to not only change optionally the installation state but also detect and display automatically the installation state.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION With the development of information processing devices, display processing systems such as personal computers and word processors equipped with CRT devices and the like that visually display processed content are becoming increasingly popular.

Among these, conventionally used display devices, such as a CRT device as a typical example, adopt a method of displaying information horizontally on a horizontally long screen. Further, in such a desktop type 7-stem system, various conditions must be taken into consideration when installing the 7-stem component devices. For example, on a desk with a small space, devices must be stacked on top of each other, and as a result, devices are affected by heat, and sometimes the devices cannot withstand long-term use.

Furthermore, although the display device is particularly required to be placed in a location where it can be most easily seen by the operator, there are many disadvantages in that this is not possible due to installation space constraints. Furthermore, depending on the display content, there are cases in which it is easier to see when displayed horizontally on the screen, and cases where it is easier to see when displayed vertically on the screen, and it is desirable to be able to use it differently depending on the purpose. Recently, some CRTs have been placed vertically to display images on a vertical screen, but at present it is not possible to use them horizontally.

Under these circumstances, some models have been equipped with C)t, TK manual switches that allow the operator to manually switch between horizontal and vertical installations by operating the switch, but the installation conditions have changed. It cannot be said that it is easy to use, considering the troublesomeness of having to manually operate the switch each time, and the loss of display switching time due to operation errors.

This embodiment includes a CRT display device 10, an installation stand 20 on which it is installed, a display device fixing mechanism 22, and a display device fixing mechanism 22, which determines the installation state by coupling with the fixing mechanism 22 and sends a determination signal to the signal line 30. and a display processing device 40 that receives a discrimination signal from a signal line 30 and transfers display information according to the installation state to the display device 10 through the entire path 60. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the discriminator 21 uses a switch 50 attached to the CRT side by a fixing mechanism 22 when the display device #10 is placed horizontally.
It has a switch detection circuit that automatically closes and opens when placed vertically.

The transmitted data is latched into the input port 100 of the display processing device 40, which is shown in detail in FIG. After being latched, this data is stored at a predetermined location in the memory 101 as discrimination data. At the start of display, the display processing device executes a routine in which the discrimination data stored in the memory 101 is read out and examined by the detection circuit 102.

Depending on the investigation result, if the discrimination data is at a low level, it will automatically recognize that the display device is placed horizontally, and select area A in the character generator 104 where a pattern for horizontal next display is set. do. On the other hand, if it is recognized that the display is in vertical orientation, area B in which the vertical orientation display pattern is set is selected. The pattern to be displayed is appropriately designated by the address output from the display pattern designation circuit 103, read out, and written into the video RAM 105, which operates as a display memory. In this embodiment, a pattern obtained by rotating the horizontal display pattern by 90 degrees is set as the chestnut display pattern. The video RAM 105 is scanned using the same method as a normal scanning method and sequentially transferred to the CRT. On the CRT side, when the CRT is placed horizontally, the beam is scanned from the upper left corner to the right and then downwards, but when it is placed vertically, the beam is scanned downward from the upper right corner. The pieces are scanned sequentially moving to the left. If the dot matrix configurations that make up each pattern are different between areas A and B in the character generator 104, it is necessary to prepare row and line counters in the display pattern designation circuit 103 according to the respective matrices. In the embodiment, in order to simplify the counter mechanism, each pattern is a square dot matrix mechanism. In this way.

The installed state of the display device is automatically determined, a corresponding pattern is set in the video RAM 105, and these are transferred to the bus 60 via the output capacitor 106t and displayed. That is, when placed horizontally, the screen is displayed as shown in FIG. 5(a), and when placed vertically, the screen is displayed as shown in FIG. 5(b). Therefore, the display pattern is automatically switched and displayed correctly without any manual operation by the operator.

Note that the information to be displayed may be not only characters as shown in FIG. 5, but also figures, tables, graphs, etc. Further, instead of preparing horizontal and vertical drawing patterns, an arrangement correction circuit may be provided at the output stage of the character generator, and the configuration of the pattern may be changed using this circuit.
