Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the density of information storage by reducing the width of the output waveform of a center magnetic resistance element by adding the output of the center magnetic resistance and the outputs of two other magnetic resistance elements at both sides with the opposite phases. CONSTITUTION:Three magnetic resistance elements 1, 2 and 3 are arranged between shield layers 5 and 6; and sense currents are flowed to the elements 1 and 2 in the same direction and to the element 3 in the opposite direction. Therefore, the magnetic resistance elements receive bias magnetic fields mutually. In addition, the elements 2 and 3 generate reproduction outputs E2 and E3 less than the reproduction output E1 of the element 1. Therefore, the element 2 has the opposite bias magnetization direction to that of the element 1, so a voltage waveform out of phase with that of the element is generated and the element 3 has the same bias magnetization direction with the element 1 to generate a voltage waveform in phase with that of the element 1. Those voltage waveforms are added together by an operational amplifier 7 to obtain the composite waveform E0 of the outputs of the elements 1, 2 and 3, i.e., an output waveform less in width than the output waveform E1 of the element 1.
