Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a composite material having superior abrasion resistance and permitting welding inexpensively by melting and sintering SiC particles and an Ni type brazing filler metal having good wettability with the SiC particles in a case made of steel.
CONSTITUTION: SiC particles 1 which has hardness of about 3,000HV, and are used for grinders or the like and an Ni type brazing filler metal 2 having good wettability with the SiC particles 1 at elevated temps. and having toughness are packed in a case 3. The case 3 is of a bottomed pipe shape consisting of weldable steel such as mild steel. Thence, the entire part is heated to about 1,500°C to melt the metal 2 and to sinter the particles 1, whereby the highly abrasion resistant composite material is obtained. Since the case 3 is made of steel, it can be welded and secured to other parts such as parts for civil engineering machines. The ratio that the SiC particles occupy in the total sectional area is set at about 30W60%.
