Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain the linearity between a digital output value and an accelerator position without making its adjustment, by directly outputting the accelerator position in the form of a digital signal. CONSTITUTION:An accelerator position detecting device 1 is equipped with a shading plate 3 which moves in its longitudinal direction, in the direction as indicated with an arrow A when an accelerator has been released, and also in the direction as indicated with an arrow B when the accelerator has been stepped on, respectively, a photodetecting element array 7 consisting of phototransistors 4-6 which have been placed at prescribed intervals along said longitudinal direction, and a light emission source 11 consisting of light emission diodes 8-10 which have been placed so as to correspond to the respective phototransistors 4-6. These phototransistors are turned on when a light beam from the light emission diode has been made incident through an optical transmission window, and a signal of (1) level is provided to a direction discriminator 13. Each output signal Q1-Q3 of each direction detector 15-17 is a signal which becomes (1) and (0) when an accelerator has been stepped on and the accelerator has been released, respectively, and an (n) bit reversible counter 29 is changed over so as to be a count-up mode and a counter-down mode when a discriminating signal Ss is (1) and when it is (0), respectively.
