Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled foam freed from anisotropy and bending and resembling closely to wood in cuttability, prepared from a polyolefin type thermoplastic resin of a specified composition and an inorganic filler.
CONSTITUTION: A foam, apparent specific gravity 0.5W0.9, is obtained by mixing (A) 40W10pts.wt. polyolefin type thermoplastic resin, e.g., low-density polyethylene, MI5W10g/min, (B) 60W90pts.wt. inorganic filler prepared by mixing talc, average particle size 1W10μ, with an inorganic filler, particle size 1W20μ, selected from the group consisting of CaCO3, kaolin, clay, BaSO4 and Al(OH)3 so as to provide a weight ratio of 9/1W1/1, and (C) a blowing agent and a crosslinking agent at 90W100°C and foaming the resulting mixture by heating 160W180°C under pressure in a closed metal mold.
EFFECT: It is possible to obtain foams having excellent dimensional stability, providing good spread for inks or coloring materials and being suitable as a material for sculpture.
