Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain cast iron by which vermicular graphite is obtained stably irrespectively of wall thicknesses by adding Ce or Ce mischmetal and leaving a specific amt. of Ce with Cu and/or Sn.
CONSTITUTION: <0.03% Ce or Ce mischmetal is added to molten cast iron desulfurized to ≤0.020%, and Ce is left at 0.002W0.015% by 0.20W1.0% Cu and/or 0.020W0.10% Sn inoculated by a mixture consisting of 0.10W1.10% ferrosilicon or calcium silicate. The vermicular cast iron of which ≥70 area% of the base structure consists of pearlite and the balance ferrite.
