Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of cast iron by adding specified amounts of Cu and Ca to molten cast iron contg. P to increase the number of eutectic cells during solidification and to distribute steadite finely and uniformly.
CONSTITUTION: To molten P-contg. cast iron contg. 2.8W3.8% C, 1.5W2.5% Si, 0.4W1.2% Mn, 0.2W0.8% P and <0.12% S are added 0.3W1.5% Cu and <0.01% Ca in the form of Cu and Ca or Ca-Si. One or more among <0.8% Cr, <0.8% Mo and <0.5% V may be added furthermore. Ca is suspended in the molten iron as CaO or CaS and acts as nuclei to increase the number of eutectic cells during solidification and to distribute finely and uniformly steadite made of eutectic consisting of Fe3P and austenite contg. P, whereby the wear resistance is enhanced. Cu makes the pearlite dense and hard to further enhance the wear resistance.
