Abstract
PURPOSE: To secure a complete purge of inflammable gas for replacement with inert gas in maintenance work of inflammable gas duct by passing an endless, duplex cylinder through the duct.
CONSTITUTION: An eldless, duplex cylinder 1 is made of fluxible gas-tight material, and its external diameter is almost as large as the internal diameter of a gas duct. The pipe 1 is kept expanded to a cylindrical form due to the fluid pressure. For the maintenance work, a bag 8 is inserted through a small hole 7 in order to cut off the fluid pressure, keeping the cut-off section 5a separated from the piping system. One end of this section 5a is connected to a pipe 9, which contains an eldless duplex cylinder 1 and is same size with the gas duct in the diameter. The tip of the pipe 9 is connected to a nitrogen cylinder 11 via a hose 10. The other end of the section 5 is connected to a hose, and the bag 8 is removed after its release from the pressure. If nitrogen gas from the nitrogen cylinder 11 enters the pipe 9 by pressure, the endless, duplex cylinder 1 moves as it rolls, replacing the inflammable gas successively with nitrogen gas.
