Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform induction hardening of uniform quality without requiring skilled operation by detecting the distances between a work coil and the surfaces to be treated of the work, maintaining these automatically at a certain value, and performing traveling and stopping of the work coils automatically. CONSTITUTION:Position detecting sensors 12, 13 are mounted to an aligning unit 7 connecting and supporting a work coil 8, at about 50mm. forward of the coil 8, in the vertical direction and horizontal direction intersecting orthogonally with the traveling direction shown by an arrow, and the stylus parts 12a, 13a of the sensors 12, 13 are held always in contact with surfaces 10a, 10b to be treated. The measured values of the sensors 12, 13 input to a control section 18, which corrects and maintains the spacing between the coil 8 and the surfaces 10a, 10b at prescribed values. An end part detecting sensor 25 detecting the end parts of the surfaces 10a, 10b is provided suitably in front of the sensor 12, and the measured value thereof is inputted to the section 18 which controls a traveling device in such a way at to operate for a prescribed time.
