Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide magnetic encoders of low cost, by using CMOS inverters in a circuit with functions to take out a change in resistance of magnetoresistive elements as a square wave signal. CONSTITUTION:CMOS inverters 8, 9, 10 and 11, 12, 13 are serially connected in three stages to output terminals of magnetoresistive elements 6 and 7, respectively, which are disposed near a magnetic recording medium to have a phase difference of 90 degrees from each other. Between input terminals and output terminals of the inverters 8, 11 on the first stage, resistors 14, 15 are respectively connected so that the inverters 8, 11 on the first stage, resistors 14, 15 are respectively connected so that the inverters 8, 11 are self-biased to near the threshold voltage, thereby to constitute an inverter circuit having its amplifying part which comprises three-stage inverters. Discrete inverters 16, 17 are connected to output terminals of the inverters 10, 13 on the final stage of the inverter circuit, respectively, for the purpose of protecting the IC's.
