Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sucrose decomposition product-free polyfunctional polyether, by adding an alkylene oxide to sucrose and glycerin in the presence of caustic alkali and a specified sucrose/glycerin mixed polyester.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of 5W80wt% sucrose and 95W20wt% glycerin is mixed with not less than 1.2wt% caustic alkali and 20W80wt% sucrose/glycerin mixed polyether, mol ratio 1:(70W0.9), average functionality 3.5W6, OH value 700W140. The addition reaction of the alkylene oxide is effected at 90W130°C and an elevated pressure of 5kg/cm2G in the absence of water to obtain a polyther, OH value 700W140. Next this polyether is dehydrated by addition of caustic alkali and then an alkylene oxide is added to the polyether to obtain a polyehter, OH value 70W20.
