Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the prevention of unnecessary consumption of cooling gas and the reduction of a rise time possible by temporarily increasing the amount of the cooling gas to be supplied to a Joule Thomson cooler for an infrared ray detector at the start of operation. CONSTITUTION:The amount of the cooling gas to be supplied to an infrared ray detector for an infrared tracking device is temporarily increased at the start of operation to permit reduction of the time required for cooling. For example, an auxiliary cylinder 9 sealed therein with a gas under high pressure although its capacity is small is prepared other than a gas cylinder 6 for supplying a cooling gas to a Joule Thomson cooler 5 for cooling an infrared ray detector 2 placed at the focus of a tracking optical system 1. At the start of operation, quick cooling is accomplished by using the auxiliary cylinder. In this case, the back flow to the cylinder 6 is inhibited by the effect of a check valve 12. When the pressure of the auxiliary cylinder drops and a steady state is attained, the gas of the cylinder 6 is used. Thereby, the wasteful consumption of the gas is prevented and the rise time is shortened.
