Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The carbostyril derivative of formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl; Y is OH or NH2; the bond between the 3- and the 4-carbon atoms of carbostyril skeleton is single or double bond) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 7-Amino-5-(1-hydroxy-2-isopropylaminobutyl)carbostyril monohydrate.
USE: Remedy for asthma, hypotenson, anti-hyperlipemia, antiphlogistic agent, remedy for diabetes, and antiviral agent. It has extremely high selectivity to β2-receptor, and remarkably weak stimmulating activity to the heart.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I wherein Y is NH2 and the bond between the 3- and the 4-carbon atoms of the carbostyril skeleton is double bond, is prepared by reacting the carbostyril of formula II with an alkanesulfonyl halide or arysulfonyl halide, and catalytically reducing the resulted compound of formula III (R3 is alkanesulfonyl or arylsulfonyl).
