Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 2,3-dicyanodihydropyrazine derivative shown by the formula I(R1 is ethyl or n-propyl; R2 is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or trifluoromethyl).
EXAMPLE: 2,3-Dicyano-5-ethylamino-6-phenyldihydropyrazine.
USE: A herbicide. Exhibiting effects by soil treatment of paddy field through flooding, foliar treatment during growth period of weeds, soil treatment of plowed field, etc. as a herbide before and/or after germination, especially effective as a herbicide for paddy field. Having abilities to control an annual weed, e.g., "Echinochloa crus- galli" Beauv. var. "praticola" Ohwi., having no phytotoxicity to rice plant.
PROCESS: A 2,3-dicyanopyrazine shown by the formula II is reacted with sodium boron hydride in an inert solvent, e.g., methanol, etc. preferably at about 15 to 30°C, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
