Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A pyridyloxybenzamide derivative expressed by formula I (R and R' are H, lower alkyl or lower alkenyl; X is halogen; n is an interger 0W3).
EXAMPLE: N-Methyl-3-(2-pyridyloxy)benzamide.
USE: A highly selective herbicide, capable of inhibiting the germination and growth of weeds mainly and exhibiting a remarkable control effect on weeds, e.g. barnyard grass, long stemmed water-wort and umbrella plant, by the soil treatment under flooded conditions, and scarcely causing the phytotoxicity to transplanted rice plants.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II, e.g. 3-(2-pyridyloxy)benzoyl chloride, is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III, e.g. methylamine, in the presence of an alkaline substance in a solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, at 30°C or below for 1W5hr to give the compound expressed by formula I.
