Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled resin having excellent self-adhesivity, by copolymerizing a specific isoprene chain dimer with a monoterpene compound and an aromatic unsaturated compound in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts-type cationic polymerization catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer is obtained by polymerizing (A) 100pts.wt. of dimethyl-1,3,6-octatriene, (B) 5W300pts.wt. of a monoterpene hydrocarbon selected from α-pinene, β-pinene, and limonene, and (C) 50W2,000pts.wt. of a 8W12C aromatic unsaturated hydrocarbon compound (e.g. styrene) in the presence of (D) e.g. 1W6wt%, based on the monomer, of a catalyst obtained by combining a Friedel-Crafts-type cationic polymerization catalyst, pref. aluminum trichloride, etc. and secondary butyl chloride, etc. as a catalyst.
USE: Tackifier of rubber, etc.
