Abstract
PURPOSE:To separate and identify the degrading components, particularly, peroxide, contained in degraded kerosene by separating the peroxide, and acidic components as well as resinous components in the degraded kerosene by active carbon, and allowing the peroxide and iodide to react. CONSTITUTION:A packed layer 2 of activated alumina carried with potassium iodide, a packed layer 4 of active carbon and a plug 3 of absorbent cotton are provided in a vessel 1 consisting of a glass tube opened at both ends. When this column is placed upright in a beaker contg. kerosene and the kerosene is sucked to the upper part by capillarity from the lower part of the column, the resin components and acidic components contained in the kerosense are adsorbed and separated in the layer 4, and the peroxide which is the other degrading component exhibits coloring reaction with potassium iodide, thereby making a part 5 colored to brown. Thereby, only the peroxide in the kerosense is identified with good sensitivity.
