Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the sprue simply by human power and eliminate danger of admixture of metallic component with the molten metal by providing a filter made up of shell sand at the sprue of a metal mold and pouring the molten metal through the filter and solidifying it.
CONSTITUTION: A filter 15 consisting of shell sand made in combination of silica sand with phenol resin is placed at the ingate 14 of a metal mold 9. Casting is performed to the metal mold by pushing up molten metal into a cavity 7 from below through a stalk 2. At this time, by pouring through the filter 15 and solidifying as it is, the joining strength between the casting and sprue is partially weakened at the sprue 14 of the metal mold 9 by the interposition of the filter 15. Consequently, the sprue of casting becomes easy to break at the ingate after casting. It can be broken easily by human power with a hand hammer.
