Abstract
In a method of starting a continuous casting plant using a starter bar whose cross-section differs from that of the strand to be cast, the head (9) of the starter bar is introduced into the mould cavity and sealed against the mould inner walls, and after pouring in melt to form a cast-on transition piece (16) on the head (9), one or more parts, e.g. the side walls (1, 2) of the mould are adjusted to a desired cross section of the strand to be cast and metal pouring is continued. <IMAGE>
