Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce blow-by gas by a method wherein the inner periphral wall of a compression ring andthe bottom wall of a groove for the compression ring are formed so as to have a plurality of steps to reduce substantially the spatial volume into which unburnt gas is forced from the side of a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:The bottom wall of the groove 15 for the first compression ring is constituted so as to have two steps through a shoulder 20 while the bottom wall 21A at the combustion chamber side is formed so as to have a groove configuration deeper than the bottom wall 21B of a crank chamber side in the radial direction thereof. On the other hand, the inner peripheral wall of the first compression ring 18 fitting into the groove 15 for the first compression ring is also formed so as to have two steps through the shoulder 22 in corresponding to the groove 15, and an extended section 18A is made by extending the part of the combustion chamber side of the first compression ring into the deep groove toward the bottom wall 21A of the combustion chamber side of the groove for the first compression ring so as to have a flange shape. By this extension 18A, the spatial volume between the inner peripheral wall of the first compression ring 18 and the bottom wall of the groove 15 therefor is divided into ta combustion chamber side spade V1 and a crank chamber side space V2.
