Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a long sensor life, by a method wherein a better conductive and heat resisting metal ring is situated between an inner and an outer terminal contacting an inner and an outer electrode of an oxygen sensor, and seals of a sensor element and a housing are positioned closer to the side of the forward end of the element than that of said ring. CONSTITUTION:Inner and outer electrodes 1a and 1b, spaced far away from each other, are positioned on an inner and na outer surface, respectively, of a body 1' of an oxygen sensor element C. An element 1 is inserted in a manner to bring an under surface of an element sholder part into contact with a part where a heat resisting metal ring 21 is placed on an element-hooking taper part 2b of a housing 2. An inner conductive ring 23 is situated to a part where the electrode 1a contacts an inner terminal 24, and an outer conductive ring 22 is located between the electrode 1a and the housing 2. At least the conductive ring 22 of the conductive rings 22 and 22 is made of a metalic material being excellent in heat resistance. This causes a sensor to be excellent in heat resistance, and allows the ring 22 to be guided from measuring gas through the working of a sealing 21, which results in obtaining a sensor having a long life.
