Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the melt sticking resistance of an Ag-Ni electrical contact material without deteriorating the advantages of the Ag-Ni alloy by adding tungsten carbide or molybdenum carbide to the contact material.
CONSTITUTION: An electrical contact material consisting of 40W60wt% Ni, 0.5W 5% tungsten carbide and/or molybdenum carbide, and the balance Ag is provided with enhanced contact performance by uniformly dispersing W and Mo carbides in an Ag-Ni alloy so as to prevent the aggregation of Ni, and superior workability, hardly dissipative property, stable contact resistance, etc. which are advantages of an Ag-Ni electrical contact material are not deteriorated. In the composition <40% Ni results in insufficient melt sticking resistance, and when the Ni content exceeds 60%, Ni is oxidized to increase the contact resistance. When the total amount of W and Mo carbides is <0.5%, the aggregation of Ni due to arc heat of a contact can not be prevented, and >5% W and Mo carbides deteriorate the workability and cause remarkable dissipation.
