Abstract
PURPOSE:To remarkably reduce the number of circuit elements, by using n sets of voltage comparators for the generation of n-bit digital output signals. CONSTITUTION:In an n(=4)-bit A/D converting circuit, 2<n>(=16) sets of resistors R1-R16 are provided between a reference voltage and ground, VR-GND in series connection. Voltage dividing voltages V1-V15 generated at each terminal of the resistors R1-R16 are supplied to an analog multiplexer 21. An unknown analog input voltage Ain is supplied to each input terminal at the + side of n(=4)-sets of voltage comparators C1-C4 generating digital output signals D1- D4. Further, to a - side terminal of the comparator C1 generating the signal D1 of the most significant bit, a voltage dividing voltage V8 at the middlemost dividing the voltage VR into two is supplied. To the next comparator C2, a middle voltage V12 out of the voltages V8-V15 or the voltage V4 intermediate among the voltages V1-V8 is supplied in correspondence to the magnitude of the voltage Ain. Similarly, either one of the voltages V2, V6, V10 and V14 is supplied to the comparator C3.
