Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head which exerts no bad influence upon a running system for a magnetic recording medium and is free of problems of position precision, by providing a magnetic resistance effect element near the back gap of a ring head, and then using ferrite as a back core material. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic material is provided in the back gap 13 between the back cores 12 of a ring head to form a gap which is 1-10mum wide and 200-1,000mum long. Since ferrite with high magnetic permeability used as the back core material is nonconductive, a ferromagnetic thin film 21 of ''Permalloy '' is vapor-deposited directly on the back core 12 and electrodes 22 and 22' of gold, etc., are provided on both its sides. On the ferromagnetic thin film 21, a hard magnetic thin film or conductive thin film 25 for applying a bias magnetic field is provided with an insulating layer 24 in-between, thus constituting a magnetic resistance effect element 14. A front core part 11 is bonded to the back core 12. Since leakage magnetic flux of the back gap part is utilized, no evil influence upon a running system for a magnetic recording medium is exerted and there is no problem of position percision.
